I literally gasped when I saw this was online! The poster ain’t half bad, either.
I must admit I was formerly disenchanted to find out that John Carpenter’s sci-fi/horror classic “The Thing” would be entering the annals of cinematic retreads (It’s a staple for my DVD player every October, after all). Then, I found out that producers Marc Abraham and Eric Newman - the very entities behind 2004’s “Dawn of the Dead” remake, one of the few remakes I believe exceeds the original and one of my all-time fav’s in general - were at the helm.
As if who was behind the camera wasn’t enough of a selling point, it was later revealed that a veritable chessboard of my personal fav’s in the acting department were to also be involved: The Queen, Mary Elizabeth Winstead; The Knight, Joel Edgerton; and the… King? - Eric Christian Olsen. (okay, so maybe Eric Christian Olsen’s more of a Prince, but sometimes metaphors have to be forced. Whatever way, these actors rule and they’re in this movie, so that’s a good thing).
Needless to say, I’m fairly happy with what I see here. It does seem to be a rehash of the same ol’ same ol’, but it still looks exciting enough that 10 bucks at the box office wouldn’t be too terrible an investment for 2 hours of entertainment.
